City of Bristol College goes green thanks to Wessex

This month (July, 2015) we are helping City of Bristol College with its Go Green Action Plan.

We are leasing two electric Nissan e-NV200 vans to the college to help it go green for 2015, the year of Bristol's European Green Capital status.

Kate Hancock, our Nissan Business Specialist at Wessex Garages on Pennywell Road, said: “We're so pleased to be providing the City of Bristol College with the two electric vehicles they have chosen.

“The Nissan e-NV200 is the most economical, commercial vehicle ever produced. It has been designed to be quiet, quick, comfortable, clean and cost-efficient for businesses.

“We have worked hard over the past 12 months implementing electric vehicles into local businesses that surround us here in Bristol and it's a pleasure to be working with big organisations such as the College, Bristol City Council and the BRI as well as smaller businesses in the area.

“We feel this is a fantastic forward-thinking move for the college - as well as the obvious fuel savings, this is a fantastic time to buy given that Bristol is European Green Capital 2015."

The College Procurement team are working in partnership with Wessex Garages to provide the two new Nissan service vehicles for internal post and package deliveries for use between its centres across the city from this August.

Simon Williams, Head of Procurement at City of Bristol College, said: “The number of journeys undertaken by the College is significant and it is hoped that the investment in these electric vehicles will prove a long-term saving on running costs with the added benefit of using a greener option for our business vehicles and reducing our carbon footprint."

City of Bristol College will be installing six new charging points at its Ashley Down, College Green and South Bristol Skills Academy centres at the end of August.

Chris Gwynne, Facilities Manager at City of Bristol College, added: “There are bigger electric vehicles coming onto the market now, so as our older vehicles start to become less cost effective, we will look to replace with electric. Given the short journeys that we make, it makes sense to utilise electric power."

Launched last year, the Nissan e-NV200 combines the NV200 - a former International Van of the Year – with the proven technology of the record breaking Nissan LEAF, the world's bestselling electric car.
