Clear out your old clothes to raise cash for charity

NEWPORT residents are this month (January, 2016) being given an opportunity to get rid of their old clothes and raise money for charity thanks to our dealership in the city.

People can take any unwanted clothes to Wessex Garages on Newport Retail Park where they will be donated to St David’s Hospice Care to sell in its shops to raise money.

Mark Larsen, our Kia Brand Manager, explained: “Rather than throw their unwanted clothing, shoes or accessories away people can drop any items they have off at the collection point we have here at the dealership. All donations must be useable and of saleable quality.

“Everything collected will be donated to St David’s Hospice Care to sell in its shops so the better the quality of your items, the more money we can raise. People can also use the opportunity to donate any unwanted Christmas presents that will help to raise money in the charity’s raffles that are held throughout the year.

“St David’s Hospice Care is our Charity of the Year and when we held this fundraiser last year we managed to raise £253.14. We are aiming to raise more than £500 this year from the initiative so we hope lots of people will help us to reach our target.”

St David’s Hospice Care has been providing community-based hospice care for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, and their families, since 1979.

Its care is provided to people living within Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and within certain areas of South and Mid Powys.

Tania Ansell, Community Fundraiser & Events Organiser at St David’s Hospice Care, said: “It’s great news that Wessex Garages is collecting unwanted clothing for us again this year. The collection is a good opportunity for people to do their bit for a local charity as well as giving their wardrobes a bit of a spring clean.”
