Dalmatian Bike Ride gets some wheelie good support

A CHARITY in Newport has been provided with some four-wheeled support for a fundraising event taking place tomorrow (June 6, 2015).

St David’s Hospice Care will use a Fiat 500X from our dealership on Newport Retail Park to lead the way during its Dalmatian Bike Ride.

Paul Edwards, our General Manager, explained: “We are really pleased we have been able to help St David’s Hospice Care, which is our Charity of the Year, by providing them with a vehicle for the event. This is the fourth annual event and last year the riders who took part raised a whopping £43,500 for the charity.

“The new Fiat 500X will be leading the participants around a brand new route, which starts in Caerleon and finishes at Newport Wetlands. The route takes in some of the iconic places in the City of Newport, such as the castle and the transporter bridge.

“There are two routes – a 40 and an 18 mile route, both of which are flat and suitable for advanced and intermediate cyclists. The event is also well marshalled.”

Mark Colbourne, MBE, Paralympic Cyclist will be leading the cyclists behind the Wessex Garages’ car.

St David’s Hospice Care has been providing community-based hospice care for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, and their families, since 1979. Its care is provided to people living within Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and within certain areas of South and Mid Powys.

Tania Ansell, Event’s Fundraiser for St David’s Hospice Care in Newport, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wessex Garages for supporting this annual key fundraiser. We hope to raise even more money than last year so that we can continue to offer our services.”
