A schoolgirl from Bristol has won the WRSA European kickboxing title recently and looks set to compete for the TFC European belt this Saturday (November 14, 2015).
Nine-year-old Tiah Ayton is part of the Cobra Kickboxing squad, which we are sponsoring.
Terry Thurgood, General Manager at our Pennywell Road dealership, explained: “Thanks to our on-going assistance with equipment and travel costs, Tiah was able to go to France recently and brought back the WRSA European title. On November 14 she will be in action again taking on a Spanish girl, fighting for the TFC European belt, this time at Thornbury Leisure Centre and we’ll be there to support her with one of our display vehicles.
“The team we helped send to France included Maddie Bowden, aged 12, Harvey Mitchell aged 11 and Tiah Ayton, aged nine, Maddie Ayton aged seven and Jamarie Ayton aged nine – who are all from the same family. Three of the squad succeeded in bringing back Six Nations titles and there was of course Tiah’s wonderful win too.
“We’ve helped the gym in the past with new flooring and have also contributed towards the children’s gloves, head guards and transportation needs including helping Tiah and her team mates compete in France. In the past we’ve also lent the team vehicles to help get to events.”
Cobra Kickboxing teaches around 90 children a week from Bristol and the surrounding area. The classes teach youngsters endurance, strength, coordination and agility and gives them a hobby that also keeps them fit.
Terry added: “Tiah is a talented kick boxer and we’re thrilled to be boosting her sporting career by giving her a helping hand.”
We are both supporting the squad and sponsoring Tiah individually. Prior to her recent win, the Bristol schoolgirl had already scooped a number of titles including an area title, two English titles and a European belt.
Neil Walker, Owner of Cobra Kickboxing in Kingswood, explained: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wessex Garages for its continued support. It is very much appreciated.
“Gloves, guards and travelling to competitions can be very expensive so their sponsorship is vital for the children.
“Our next big event is an International Showcase Championship Kickboxing afternoon and evening from 4.30pm on November 14 at Thornbury Leisure Centre.
“It will consist of a number of kids starting the show with fighters coming from Spain, France and the UK. Top of the bill in the evening is the adults’ event with a professional world kickboxing title and many other awards up for grabs. Tickets for standing only are available priced £25 by calling 07796 233620.”
