As part of TyreSafe’s Tyre Safety Month we are giving you a chance to take advantage of a free tyre safety check at any of our dealerships throughout October (2014).
Rachel Perry, Service Manager at our dealership on Pennywell Road in Bristol, said: “TyreSafe is an organisation set up to raise awareness of the importance of the dangers of defective and worn tyres.
“Tyre Safety Month highlights the dangers of driving on tyres that have insufficient tread depth, making them both illegal and dangerous.
“Last year was one of the wettest winters on record so it is essential to make sure you check your car’s tyres are safe going into the new season.
“Vehicles with tyres that do not have the legal amount of tread pose a danger to the driver and to other road users. Stopping distances are increased and even more so in wet weather conditions, cornering ability is reduced and the chance of aquaplaning is a higher risk, all as a result of illegal tread depth.”
The current law states that tyres must have a minimum of 1.6 millimetre (mm) of tread across the central three quarters of the tyre, around its whole circumference. Drivers with tyres that fail to meet these standards face a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per illegal tyre.
Rachel added: “During October, we will be offering visitors a free five point tyre safety check at all of our dealerships. We will check the vehicle’s tread depth, tyre pressures, general condition of tyres, age of tyres and alignment. All of these areas are important to make sure tyres are in a safe and roadworthy condition.”
