A CYCLING event taking place in Bristol tomorrow (June 20, 2015) has been provided with some much needed four-wheeled support from us.
The Bristol Grand Prix Cycle Road Race will use an electric Nissan LEAF from our dealership on Pennywell Road to lead each neutralised lap at the event on Saturday, June 20.
Andy Provis, our Group Fleet/Business Centre Manager, explained: “Big Green Week and Le Sportif have organised this event and it will take over the streets of Bristol to inspire people of all ages and abilities to cycle.
“We were more than happy to help them out by lending them an eco-friendly car to help with the proceedings. Along with Nissan, we are the official vehicle supplier to Bristol Green Capital 2015 and we are thrilled to support this partnership by using one of the vehicles to support the Grand Prix.
“The Nissan LEAF is the perfect car for the event as it has zero emissions, which is great for the cyclists behind the vehicle and it also ties in with promoting Big Green Week.
“During the afternoon there will be five races and a community lap with Mayor George Ferguson.
“Prior to the start of each race there is a neutralised lap behind a lead car and this is where our Nissan LEAF comes in. The car will be parked on the start line on Park Street prior to the start of each race before leading the lap, returning to the start line between races.”
Bristol Grand Prix will showcase all levels of bike racing, from Elite (professional) to junior development riders. It’s a chance for people to see some of Bristol and the UK’s best racers in the centre of the city on a unique figure of eight course, which is only 1.3 km long.
The course will go around Park Street, St George’s Road, Deanery Road, College Street, Frog Lane and Denmark Street.
Phil Adkins, Le Sportif Director, said: “We would like to thank Wessex Garages for lending us the 100% electric Nissan LEAF. The car is essential for the neutralised laps.
“The schedule for the event includes a ‘Love My Bike’ lap for public entry, a youth race, a corporate relay race and three categories of races for men and women. The Bristol Grand Prix is an opportunity for everyone to be part of Bristol’s vibrant cycling scene. We hope lots of people join in and support the event.”
The Grand Prix is part of Big Green Week’s programme of events and is a key part of Bristol’s Green Capital year.
