CONNNAIRE Cann from Cardiff has signed up to take part in a charity car rally to Mongolia and we have given him a helping hand (January, 2016).
The 22-year-old will travel more than 10,000 miles in July in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and we have supplied him with a free car service kit and also some safety kits.
Connaire, who is originally from Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales but studying Earth Sciences at Cardiff University, said: “Two of my friends from home, Iwan Williams and Steve Price, and I are planning to drive an 02 plate Nissan Micra from the UK to Mongolia in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the Mongol Rally.
“The sponsorship from Wessex Garages has been a great help and we are very thankful. They are a great bunch of guys at the dealership and their advice and kits will be a huge help throughout our long journey.
“The car will be tested as it takes us through Scandinavia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. The roads will be terrible but I feel the mere one litre Micra will make it.”
The Mongol Rally starts from the UK on July 17 and will finish in the Russian city of Ulan Ude.
Gareth Howells, our General Manager at Wessex Garages on Hadfield Road, said: “We donated a selection of items to the team to help them with their fundraiser including a free service car kit so they can prepare the vehicle prior to leaving and also some safety kits containing first aid kits and high visibility vests.
“We would like to wish Connaire, Iwan and Steve the best of luck with their rally. It will be an amazing adventure for them and it is in aid of such a worthy charity.”
In the coming months Connaire, Iwan and Steve will be very busy preparing for the rally as they have to apply for Visas, build a roof rack and box for the Micra, service the car and teach Steve first aid.
Connaire added: “We decided to support Macmillan Cancer Support as we feel cancer affects everyone either directly or indirectly and can literally bring people’s lives to a standstill. Good health is taken for granted and Macmillan Cancer Support services are there to help people regain and continue living their lives when it’s so hard to stay positive.
“We thought it would be a great idea to take part in the Mongol Rally to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan and to take advantage to our current good health. We are hoping to raise a minimum £1,000 and are currently on around £200 so we have a long way to go but we are very thankful of what people have generously given so far.”
