Melanie King, Environment Manager at Bristol Airport, with the Nissan e-NV200.
BRISTOL Airport has landed its first electric vehicle and will plug in to the sustainable transport scheme thanks to help from us.
We provided a 100% electric, Nissan e-NV200 van to the Airport to help it go green for 2015, the year of Bristol's European Green Capital status.
Andy Provis, our Group Fleet/Business Centre Manager, explained: “We were delighted we could help Bristol Airport in their bid to go more environmentally-friendly. Bristol Airport's in-house Information Technology (IT) team will use the vehicle to maintain equipment and support staff across the Airport site.
“The Nissan e-NV200 is the first 100% electric powered vehicle on the 176 hectare site, and has been purchased with support from TravelWest. The vehicle is the most economical, commercial vehicle ever produced. It has been designed to be quiet, quick, comfortable, clean and cost-efficient for businesses.
“We have worked hard over the past 12 months implementing electric vehicles into local businesses that surround us here in Bristol and it's a pleasure to be working with big organisations such as the Airport, City of Bristol College, Bristol City Council and the BRI as well as smaller businesses in the area.
“We feel this is a fantastic forward-thinking move for the Airport and are delighted that they are planning to purchase another van in October. As well as the obvious fuel savings, this is a fantastic time to buy given that Bristol is European Green Capital 2015."
Launched last year, the Nissan e-NV200 combines the NV200 - a former International Van of the Year – with the proven technology of the record breaking Nissan LEAF, the world's bestselling electric car.
Melanie King, Environment Manager at Bristol Airport, said: “The new vehicle has been well received by the IT team. Sustainability is a key focus for us and we are always looking to explore technology which can help us reduce our impact on the local environment. This is one of several initiatives in support of Bristol's status as European Green Capital."
Bristol Airport will charge its van but using an electric charging socket installed in front of the Airport's Administration Building.
