Help get our Welsh girls basketball team to Andorra

A GIRLS basketball team from Wales has qualified for a tournament in Andorra this summer and we have given them a helping hand with their fundraising efforts to get there (April, 2016).

Our Hadfield Road dealership in Cardiff is hosting a raffle for the second year running for the players to help them raise the £9,000 they need to compete in the European Championships from July 18 until 24.

Gareth Howells, our General Manager at the dealership, said: “It is fantastic news that the Welsh Under 16s basketball squad has qualified again to attend the European Championships. We are delighted once again to be able to help the girls with their fundraising.

“To get the team there to compete they need £9,000 to cover travel and kit costs. We have offered a helping hand and produced raffle tickets which the girls, family members and coaching staff can sell at £2 each or £10 for a book of five to friends, neighbours and school mates.

“All proceeds from the tickets will go straight to the team and we will be providing the prize, which is a family pass for four to Oakwood Theme Park and the use of one of our cars with a full tank of fuel to get them there. They will also be able to have the car for the whole weekend.

“We hope lots of people buy a ticket for the raffle and support the team as it would be amazing to get them to the championships to represent Wales.”

The raffle will be drawn on Friday, June 24, 2016.

Lynne Edwards, Welsh Team Manager for the basketball team, explained: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wessex Garages for its continued support. The girls receive no central funding so the raffle is a great help to aid our fundraising.

“The girls managed to reach the semi-finals last year but narrowly missed out on a bronze medal. We hope this year we can return to Wales holding a medal.”
