Only Men Aloud fans win tour car for the weekend

LYNNE Hill and Joan Wright were last Friday (July 10) presented with a Kia Sorento for the weekend by our Penarth Road dealership in Cardiff after winning a social media competition.

Lynne and Joan were given the use of the car after winning a competition to tweet us with their favourite photo of the dealership’s logoed vehicles during the Only Men Aloud (OMA) group’s tour.

Lynne said: “We run the OMA fan club, OMAniacs, with the full backing of OMA. We started the game #spottheOMAcars on Twitter on OMA’s Christmas tour last December (2014) and decided to carry on with it on this year’s spring/summer tour.

“We started to photograph the OMA cars at the start of the tour in April within our fan club as a game, with a points system just for fun. Wessex Garages mentioned a possible token prize early on in the tour then astounded us when they announced the actual prize on June 26.”

Wessex Garages was the official sponsor of Only Men Aloud’s ‘On the Road Tour’ tour and provided the group with two Kia Sorentos to help them travel the length and breadth of the country.

Joan added: “Our photo of the OMA car was taken on April 18 at Riverside Arts in Newport and tweeted on April 20 once we were back home. We were totally taken aback when we learned earlier this month that this photo had won us the prize.

“During OMA’s tour we followed them around the country, going to 15 shows and covering 3,500 miles by car and 400 miles by train in the process. Winning the prize of the privilege of driving an OMA car for the weekend was a dream come true for us and certainly eased the post tour blues. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Wessex Garages for picking us.”

Only Men Aloud is a Cardiff-based group, which was formed by Tim Rhys-Evans, who is a classically trained singer and former musical director of the Welsh National Youth Opera. In 2008 the group won the BBC’s Last Choir Standing competition.

For this tour the band performed fan favourites given the unique Only Men Aloud twist such as Mr Blue Sky and Ticket to Ride as well as debuting new material with their trademark vocal harmonies.

Keith Brock, Managing Director of Wessex Garages, explained: “I’d like to say a huge congratulations to Lynne and Joan for winning the competition and I’m thrilled they enjoyed using the car during the weekend.”
