With its emission-free all-electric powertrain the new ZOE is one of Renault's most important creations. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are growing in importance, and the ZOE is helping to bring this technology to an ever-broadening selection of drivers.
Where previous EVs were given radical styling to help them sell the ZOE has been sculpted to fit into Renault's sophisticated line-up. It is compact and modern with short overhangs and premium details including LED daytime running lights. Hidden rear door handles give it a coupé-like profile, while the blue-tinted chrome Renault badge shows the car's electric identity.
The interior reflects the vehicle's eco-friendly character as it is quiet, relaxing and peaceful. Even the dashboard has been designed to look like a turbine blade, and the entire fascia is uncluttered for simple usability. There is space for five inside the cabin, and a 388-litre boot makes the model roomier than the likes of the Volkswagen e-up!.
Cutting-edge engine technology makes the ZOE what it is, but this isn't the only place where Renault innovation is found. The brand's R-Link multimedia system with integrated TomTom satellite navigation comes as standard and fits a seven-inch colour touchscreen to the dash. The system lets you choose your preferred music, follow directions to your destination and call contacts through voice commands. With automatic climate control also on-board the optimum temperature is always enjoyed.
In place of a Renault combustion engine is an 108hp electric motor that delivers 225Nm of torque which makes sure that acceleration isn't sacrificed for cleanliness. A range of up to 186 miles is claimed by Renault which is ample to cover most commutes to work and back with energy remaining. It takes just three to four hours to fully charge the ZOE when you use a 7kW home wall box, and you can also visit a public charging station when you are out and about. Rapid charging points are found at key locations such as motorway service stations to keep you mobile during long trips.
Safety wasn't overlooked when designing this forward-thinking model as it includes Renault's latest active technology and passive features. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) help to prevent a loss of control during testing situations and an advanced airbag system protects occupants in the event of a collision.
