Businesses that want ample loadspace and the ability to navigate the city with ease would do well to choose the Renault Traffic. This mid-sized van is an excellent all-rounder, boasting powerful engines and a variety of useful features that make it an invaluable ally on the road.
The Trafic has a confident aesthetic that gives it an assertive (but not brutish) road presence. Large headlamps are placed either side of an equally imposing black front grille, which holds the brand's badge at its centre. Sturdy steel wheels are swapped for alloys on the range-topping Sport grade while all include heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors.
There are three versions of the Trafic to choose from: Panel Van, Crew Van andPassenger. The Panel Van is available with a short or long wheelbase, low or high roof and glazed or panelled sides. The largest holds up to 8,600 litres of cargo, and if you want storage space plus room for six, choose the Crew Van. The Passenger can carry nine in comfort and is ideal for clients, workers or the family. Each of these models shares a practical cockpit featuring an adjustable steering wheel, 14 storage areas and a handy laptop dock.
The entry-level Business trim offers the kinds of advanced technology you'd expect of higher spec vehicles. This includes a DAB digital radio which includes USB and AUX input. Bluetooth connectivity keeps your hands on the wheel when taking a call, and a 12-volt power socket helps you to keep important devices fully charged. The range-topping Sport variant adds a Renault MediaNav Evolution system that incorporates a seven-inch touchscreen and satellite navigation function.
Dependable diesel engines power the Trafic and help carry everything you need to transport with no fuss. The engine selection starts with the 90hp dCi and ends at the same unit but with 140hp. The most muscular diesel also produces 340Nm of torque at 1500rpm which helps it to accelerate confidently, and six-speed manual transmission shifts through the gears smoothly to enhance the van's efficiency. The 120hp ENERGY dCi is the most frugal option. It includes start/stop with Energy Smart Management and returns up to 47.9mpg combined when in the Panel Van.
The Trafic has taken a big step forward for safety and is well-equipped to protect occupants and cargo. The premium Grip Xtend system, which maximises the van's traction on loose or slippery surfaces, is complemented by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist. Anti-lock brakes and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) are two more standard safety systems, while a full steel bulkhead (panel van) and driver airbag keep you safe in the event of a collision.
