Bristol’s biggest fireworks event raises £26,896 for charity

BRISTOL’S biggest fireworks display raised £26,896 in aid of charity thanks to support from our Pennywell Road dealership.

The Nissan showroom sponsored the Downend Round Table’s fireworks display on November 6 at Sutherland Avenue in Downend.

Steve Lansdale, Chairman of the Downend Round Table, explained: “We’re delighted that the event raised a staggering £26,896. This is a record for us and the money will go to the GWRT Charitable Trust, a registered charity run by us, the Downend Round Table.

“We will then make donations to local good causes, such as Jessie May Trust, which was the flagship charity for this year’s event, Resound, 54th Scouts and 78th Scouts. Further donations from the money raised will be made throughout the coming year as people apply for grants and funding.

“We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wessex Garages for sponsoring our annual display. Its support is very much appreciated. We would like to also thank all the people that came along to the event. Without them it wouldn’t have been such a huge success.”

During the event there was a children’s fireworks display, a bonfire and a live fire show with Circus Uncertainty. Celebrity chef, Dean Edwards did the official countdown to the main fireworks display. There was also live music from White Man Inferno and Chris Smee.

Terry Thurgood, our General Manager of the dealership, explained: “We were delighted to be able to support the event and are so pleased that it managed to raise more than £26,000 for charities in the Bristol area. An amazing amount of money that will be greatly received by people in Bristol who need it the most.

“Our staff also attended the fireworks show and took along five news cars for people to have a look around. We also held a competition to win £200 worth of shopping vouchers for Christmas. Rob Belsten from Chipping Sodbury won the competition by answering a Guy Fawkes related question correctly.”
